Top Doorslammer - (T/D)
Concept of the Class

Top Doorslammers are the ultimate drag racing sedans, using replicas of production sedans and coupes with full racing chassis and large capacity V8 engines, methanol fuel and supercharging.

The Top Doorslammer T/D Class started in Australia in 1995 as an Exhibition Class, from AA/Altered Production vehicles. John Zappia - a pioneer of the class, was the 1995 Top Doorslammer Champion and using a 554 cubic inch TFX engine, producing 2,380 horsepower, achieved a best performance of 6.54 at 218mph.

At events where a Top Doorslammer bracket is not posted, these vehicles will be eligible for Competition Eliminator, using their respective ANDRA National Class Index.

The equivalent Class in the USA is Pro Modified and Top Sportsman in the IHRA (International Hot Rod Association), where blown V8 sedans compete with up to 711ci Nitrous and Injected sedans. The larger NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) does not have a Top Doorslammer class, but is currently running IHRA invitation Exhibition brackets at their events, which are proving very popular.
