Dyno Shootout - Genie Exhaust Centre, 60 Norma Road, Myaree, Western Australia.
Horsepower Exhibition
22 September 2002
A good sized croud turned out last Sunday for Zap's annual dyno shootout, at Genie Exhaust Centre in Myaree, braving some inclement weather. Some very tidy cars entered and won, including Phil Gardener's new small block Chev ute, Kim Stevens VT Ute, and Mike Molister's VS Ute. Sleeper of the year goes to Tony Goodlich's Torana - complete with bog standard wheel trims, pee shooter exhaust - and 481.5 rear wheel horsepower! Simply blew the audience away. Five class winners beat last years horsepower figures for their class [+], and two new classes were added for Gen III powered vehicles.
The old Zap's Rat was placed on the dyno, and after a steady warm up period that got everybody used to the exhaust noise, Zap blipped the supercharged Chev - sending people scattering in all directions! The full power run had the rear tyres turning significantly on the rollers, giving a lower than usual 684.5 horsepower. Great entertainment, and a taste of things to come for Zap's Rat fans, as proceeds of the day went to help fund construction of the new Zap's Rat Top Doorslammer. Stay tuned for details.
