Goldenstates Challenge - The Top Doorslammers & Nitro Bikes Hit Kwinana
The Southside Engine Centre Goldenstate challenge - featuring round 2 of the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship series and Round 2 of the Australian Top Bike Championship series - will be held over 2 days.
The event will be held again over two days due to the large number of race teams nominating to compete at the event . Over 180 race teams will compete at the event.
With an field of 10 entries for Top Doorslammer, the Friday night qualifying will certainly be one night of Drag Racing you do not want to miss.
The three Top Doorslammer and Top Bike qualifying sessions will take place at 6pm, 8pm and 10pm, with all other eliminators having at least two qualifying sessions scheduled.
On Saturday December 6 qualifying will continue for Group 2 and Group 3 categories from 11am with eliminations starting at 4:30pm.
The Top Doorslammer and Top Bike eliminations will be held at 6pm, 8pm with the final round at 10pm.
Western Australia will field 3 entries led by Robin Judd (53 Studebaker) followed by Grant O'Rourke (Monaro) and crowd favourite John Zappia in 'Zaps Rat'.
The worlds youngest professional Drag Racing champion - Ben Bray will be hard at work defending his hard won Top Doorslammer title in the famous Castrol 57 Chev with the number 2 placegetter - none other than his father Victor Bray looking to wrest the title from his young son.
Ben Bray is currently third in the Championship series behind Steve Stanic in the brand new Lucky Belleri owned '68 Camaro who defeated Victor Bray , Ben Bray and Brett Stevens on his way to his win in the first round held at Willowbank Raceway a fortnight ago.
Stanic along with fellow New South Welshman Maurice Fabietti will be flying the flag for the Sydneysiders while both Brays, Gary Phillips and Brett Stevens will be representing the Maroons. Heading West from Mexico (Victoria...it is south of the border!) is the likeable Peter Kapiris with the Batmobile.
The Friday night qualifying should produce some of the most spectacular racing as the teams jockey for a position in the 8 car elimination field. This should produce one of the quickest ever Top Doorslammer fields in Australian history.
Then on Saturday is is sudden death with the 370km/h 'slammers locking horns to score the psychological advantage with the bonus points offered at West Australian rounds of the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship series.
Just as fierce will be the qualifying for Top Bike with a field of 9 riders qualifying for an 8 bike field.
The Top Bike round was a bonus after two sponsors stepped forward to put up the prizemoney to ensure that an extra round of the Championship occurred in Perth - special thanks to Bayswater Motorcycles and Southwest Motorcycles.
This event will feature the first appearance of Troy McClean aboard the 2nd Jack Daniels nitro harley. McClean has already run a number of 6 second 200mph (320kmh) passes and is looking forward to ripping up the Quit Motorplex quartermile. South Australian Dennis Grant will make a welcome return to the Quit Motorplex after a 12 month absence. Grant will be riding his new bike...an awesome US nitro harley owned by Jim McClure. The bike has already recorded times of 6.4 seconds!
Brett Stevens is also here bouyed by the fact that he has run 6 second 200mph (320kmh) times a fortnight ago at Willowbank Raceway. The Attitude Racing team have a strong presence with defending champion Ian Ashelford, brother Mark, Brett Jonas and Syd Standring flying the flag for the Mandurah based team. And for the fans of Jap Top Bike racing there is Mark 'The Iceman' Drew aboard his supercharged nitro burning Kawasaki and Jay Upton who reset the national record to 6.613 seconds at the Australian Nationals at Willowbank Raceway 2 weeks ago.
This would definately have to be a 'not to be missed' event on the calendar and remember - Two day tickets are available so - don't miss one minute of the Top Doorslammers and Top Bikes as they hit Perth for the last time in 2003.
