Six vehicles turned up for the Boxing Day Top Comp bracket, dedicated to the Make a Wish Foundation charity, on a day of mixed weather conditions. Hot track conditions prevailed for the afternoon sessions, and overcast humid weather moved in at night.
John Zappia's first pass at 4pm in the RENTCO Rat blew the tyres off, resulting in a 6.629et @ 225.56mph. With a low index of 6.250et, that left Zap at the bottom of the qualifying field.
First round eliminator saw Zap up against George Separovich's awesome little Torana. "I knew I had to win on a good reaction, as George could run 3 tenths under his index. As it turned out I red lighted, so I pulled the shoots early to roll through."
"Congratulations to George who won the B Final, and John McSweeney who won the A Final. Both are good customers of Zappia Racing, George enjoying excellent blown alcohol engine parts and the McSweeney's their 4 speed B & J Transmission"
"We were given the option of making a grudge pass later in the evening, so were thrilled with being able to rattle off a 6.06et straight pass. That gives us more data for the upcoming rounds of the Top Doorslammer Championship."
