John Zappia - West Aussie hero says "come and get me" as he counts on a home track advantage to win round 5 of the Top Doorslammer Championship in Perth this coming weekend.
"We top qualified in Round 3 of Top Doorslammer here at the Goldenstates a tenth plus quicker than the rest of the field, then won the event with 6.09, 6.02 and 6.00 runs. The quickest car behind us for the event was a 6.07." said Zap in the shed this week. "Since that event here in Perth, we have run a string of runs in the 6.01 - 6.02 range, and a host of 6.1's. The quickest pass at Round 4 in Sydney at the Summernationals was a 6.08, so this RENTCO Monaro is a quick car."
"We really would like to run another 5 for our fans and supporters here in Western Australia, and if the conditions are right I can see no reason why that will not happen. We have a lot of local Supporting Sponsors here in Perth that were with us from the original Zap's Rat HQ, and from the beginning of the RENTCO Top Doorslammer Monaro build, and we really appreciate their loyalty."
"I think many teams are taking longer to understand the lock-up clutch, and how it can be used to best effect. Some teams have taken them out after hurting parts and having difficulty getting the car down the track. We used lock up clutches in the old Rat for years, and really have our current combo sorted well."
"The freak part failure that prevented us from completing the third qualifier in good track conditions at the Summernationals has been replaced, and all repairs carried out. No changes are required on the car, as this is our 6.0 setup that has taken two years to refine."
"Although we are currently ahead of the field, we'll still be taking our competitors very seriously, as this will be a quality field this weekend. We look forward to some great racing, and entertainment for the fans. Come down to the pits and say hello and check out the selection of merchandise."
