John Zappia joins fellow West Australians Robin Judd and Grant O'Rourke making the long 'coast to coast' trip to this years Winternationals at Willowbank International Raceway for the final round of the Top Doorslammer Championship. The Winternationals is Australia's biggest drag racing event and has attracted over 600 drag racing team entrants, 20 in Top Doorslammer.
The RENTCO Monaro of John Zappia sits second on the Top Doorslammer Championship table with 453 points, behind the consistent Steve Stanic on 523 points. "We are going to Willowbank to win, as we have nothing to loose and everything to gain" said Zap, "If fate hands us the Championship then we will take it, but Stanic would have to fail to qualify, and I would have to win the event. Stranger things have happened in this bracket - who would have though the Brays would fail to qualify last meeting? and we have had some incidents this year that have been unexpected also."
The Zappia Racing team have been hard at work in the shed preparing the World's Quickest Doorslammer for this event. "We were down on power at the Tin Tops, and I am confident that has been solved. I am looking forward to running in the 6.0 region, and would love to repeat the five second pass for the crowd. With twenty doorslammers in the field the pressure on teams to qualify will be huge. We have top qualified three times this season and qualified second twice, so our confidence is high in that area."
John Zappia is enjoying a highly successful season under the naming rights sponsorship deal with RENTCO and the five second pass attracted a lot of sponsorship attention, with several new major sponsors coming on board namely Striker Crushing Equipment (SCE), Fuchs Oils and Trustek Steel Roofing Systems. "Our plans for next season and beyond are very exciting for us as privateer racers, and we remain committed to racing nationally, performing at the elite level and providing exposure and entertainment for all our sponsors and our loyal supporters"
Supporters can keep track of Zap's progress at the Winternationals on the team website www.zapsrat.com.au or if you make the journey to Willowbank drop in to the pit area meet John and the crew.
